When painting in acrylic, there are four different brands of brushes that I’m currently loving. Before I tell you what they are, I think it’s important to note that every artist is drawn to different brushes for different reasons. Here are a few of my prefrences.
I don’t aim for absolute precision and exactness in my brushstrokes. I like a little bit of a clumsy looseness in my marks.
I’m not very gentle with my brushes as I often use them in a scrubbing motion.
I like marks that allow for varying levels of opacity and texture as opposed to a flat solid coat of paint.
Most of these bushes have a bit of stiffness to their bristles. (Remember, I love “scrubbing” in the paint.) In contrast, the last one is like a little mop that can hold a ton of paint. Although I prefer long handled brushes as they allow me to step back farther from my work, the Silver Atelier bush only comes in a short handle ... but I love it so much I use it anyways. In fact, out of all the brushes this is probably the one I reach for the most.
