My studio space has seen a lot of different configurations as my creative practice has evolved over time. More often than not, it’s something minor like switching out a few art supplies from one drawer to another. However, this time I decided to move two pieces of furniture for a very specific reason … and I’m so glad I did.
BEFORE
Because of the limited space in my studio, I was unable to leave my light stands out all the time. I use my lights so often that I was constantly getting them out and putting them away again. When not in use, they were tucked tight together in the corner like two pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.
This repetitive shifting back and forth made me wonder if I could come up with a better solution.
AFTER
By swapping out my desk and bookshelf, I can now keep my lighting up all the time, allowing for much quicker impromptu photo shoots. Also, If I’m shooting here and there through the week, I can leave stuff out and still open the doors without jumbled furniture getting in the way. LOL! Oh my goodness … this is such a game changer for me! It’s only been a few days and it’s already made a world of difference.
If you are interested in learning more about my studio, I wrote a post about it a while back. I’ll link it at the end of this post.
*update: the book An Artist’s Guide to Evaluating Composition is now available.
